CPAN offers free, evidence-based SAFETY-A training to help pediatric clinicians identify and assess suicide risk, develop effective safety plans with patients and their families, and avoid unnecessary ER visits.
SAFETY-A is a flexible, efficient, and effective intervention for youth with suicidal thoughts and behaviors designed to fit your pace, practice, and limited time with patients.
The SAFETY-A intervention—developed by researchers at the UCLA ASAP Center and offered to CPAN by the Baylor College of Medicine HRI—focuses on reducing risk, supporting continuity of care, restricting access to lethal means, and strengthening protective factors
Why SAFETY-A?
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 10–24 in the United States, and rates have been rising for decades. Early identification and intervention can save lives.
Primary care clinicians regularly see patients with suicidal thoughts or actions, or self-harm, but they don’t always feel prepared or trained to assess risk or plan next steps.

SAFETY-A Training Levels
